A sanding disc should be chosen for the surface, the next finishing step and the extraction setup. For Singapore joinery shops, repair workshops and finishing teams, President Trading lists two useful 150 mm options: Mirka Galaxy Multifit and Mirka Abranet Ace. Their most important difference is the backing: Galaxy is film-based, while Abranet Ace uses a net construction.
How the two abrasives differ
| Feature | Galaxy | Abranet Ace |
|---|---|---|
| Backing | Film with a Multifit hole pattern | Open net structure |
| Cutting technology | Self-sharpening ceramic abrasive technology | Ceramic grains with an optimised net construction |
| Where to start your trial | Mixed-material preparation and finishing work | Hardwood, solid-surface and primer sanding |
| Extraction approach | Dust passes through the disc's perforations | Dust passes through the net structure |
Mirka describes Galaxy's ceramic grains as forming fresh cutting edges as they fracture. Abranet Ace combines ceramic grains with a net backing and is positioned for demanding surface preparation, including hardwood and primer applications. Neither construction removes the need to match the abrasive to a compatible backing pad and extraction system.
Choose the grit for the next process
Start by identifying what needs to be removed and what finish must follow. Levelling a repair, preparing a primer and refining a surface before polishing are different jobs. Follow the coating or finishing-system supplier's specified grit sequence, and test a small area before committing to the whole component.
Our Galaxy listing currently offers grit options 80, 120, 240, 320, 400 and 600 in 100-disc packs, plus 1000, 1200, 1500 and 2000 in 50-disc packs. Abranet Ace is listed in 80, 120, 240 and 320, in 50-disc packs. These are catalogue options, not a recommended step-by-step sanding sequence; intermediate grades may be needed for your process.
Compare cost per finished component
A cheaper box does not necessarily produce the lower job cost. Run a controlled trial using the same material, tool, grit, extraction setup and finish requirement. Record the time taken, discs consumed and any finishing work needed afterwards. Compare equal quantities when assessing pack prices.
Inspect the scratch pattern under consistent lighting. If a coarse scratch remains, moving straight to a much finer grade can leave it visible beneath the final coating. Change one variable at a time so you can tell whether the improvement came from the abrasive, technique or extraction.
Check the setup before ordering
- Confirm a 150 mm disc suits the machine and backing pad.
- Check the attachment, extraction path and any required pad saver or interface.
- Select the grade and pack quantity explicitly.
- Confirm availability and lead time for your required quantity.
These 150 mm discs are not the correct diameter for the 225 mm LEROS wall sanders. If you are ordering for several machines, separate the requirements by tool model.
