Cutting reinforcing steel on site is often treated as a simple job, but the method matters. What is the Milwaukee M18 FRBCO32 designed to do?

The M18 FRBCO32 is designed to cut rebar and threaded rod up to 32 mm. Milwaukee also cites approximately 2-second cutting performance in 16 mm rebar, making it particularly relevant when a crew needs to make repeated cuts throughout the day.

Instead of relying on an abrasive wheel, the cutter uses a cermet-tipped blade to produce a cold, low-spark cut. This means less heat and fewer sparks than abrasive-wheel cutting, which can be useful when working around finished surfaces, formwork, other trades or areas where controlling sparks and debris is important.

Low-spark cutting should not be confused with spark-free cutting. Normal site safety controls, PPE and manufacturer instructions still apply.

The tool also incorporates cut-stop technology that automatically stops the cutting action after the cut is completed. A non-lockable safety paddle switch helps reduce unintended continuous operation, while the three-position anti-vibration side handle gives the operator more flexibility in positioning the tool.

Other practical features include an LED work light and a spark-collection bag to help manage the work area.
