When specifying a sanding station, include dust extraction in the equipment decision from the start. The extractor, hose, backing pad and abrasive need to work together. A mismatch anywhere in that path can undermine the setup, even when the individual tools are good.
President Trading's Mirka DEXOS M-class extractor listing includes the 17-litre DEXOS 1217 M AFC and the 30-litre DEXOS 1230 M AFC. For Singapore workshops and contractors, the first buying question is how the machine will be moved, stored and used through the working day.
17 litres or 30 litres?
| Model | Listed container capacity | Buying consideration |
|---|---|---|
| DEXOS 1217 M AFC | 17 litres | Assess first when compact storage and moving between work areas matter. |
| DEXOS 1230 M AFC | 30 litres | Assess first when greater container capacity is useful for the workload. |
The larger container is not, by itself, proof of stronger suction or better collection at the sanding head. Capacity is one selection factor; tool compatibility, airflow requirements and the complete extraction path also matter. Consider vehicle space, stairs and where the unit will stand while the operator works.
What does AFC do?
AFC stands for Automatic Filter Cleaning. Mirka describes the DEXOS system as cleaning the filters automatically to help manage clogging and maintain extraction performance. It is a useful feature for repeated sanding work, but filters, bags and hoses still need inspection and maintenance.
Follow the manufacturer's instructions for settings and emptying. Do not treat automatic cleaning as a reason to continue with a damaged filter, obstructed hose or incorrectly fitted bag.
Order the hose and consumables deliberately
Our Mirka sleeve and hose listing offers 4 m and 6 m assemblies combining an extraction hose and power cable inside a protective sleeve. Choose the length around your actual working distance and confirm the fittings and electrical connection for the tool and extractor.
We also list replacement fleece dust bags with separate variants for DEXOS 1217 M, DEXOS 1230 M and DE 1230 L. Select by the full machine model. A similar model number or the same nominal container capacity is not enough to establish bag compatibility.
A practical daily check
- Inspect the hose and connections for damage, loose joints and obstructions.
- Check that the correct bag and filters are fitted according to the manual.
- Confirm that the abrasive and backing pad provide the intended extraction path.
- Test the extraction and configured start/stop function before beginning the job.
- Investigate reduced airflow or warnings before continuing.
For a purchasing trial, compare performance during the actual task, rather than judging only by suction at an open hose. Record interruptions, bag changes and handling difficulties alongside the quality of the finished work.
Match the extractor to the material
M-class is a dust-extractor classification, not a blanket approval for every substance or process. Confirm suitability against the machine instructions and the material's safety information, including any additional controls your task requires. Effective extraction reduces dust at source; it does not guarantee zero exposure.
