WEICON Fast-Metal Minute Adhesive: A Practical Guide to Workshop Repairs

WEICON Fast-Metal Minute Adhesive: A Practical Guide to Workshop Repairs

A small damaged part can delay an entire maintenance job. Replacing it may involve dismantling an assembly, finding a spare and waiting for delivery. In an appropriate application, an epoxy repair offers another option—but the decision should begin with the part’s function and the demands on the finished repair.

President Trading lists WEICON Fast-Metal Minute Adhesive in a 24 ml double syringe. For Singapore workshops, fabrication teams and maintenance departments, it is worth assessing when a small bonding or filling job needs a paste-like adhesive that can accommodate uneven surfaces.

Where Fast-Metal fits in the repair toolkit

WEICON describes Fast-Metal as a two-component epoxy for bonding and gap filling, including rough or poorly fitting surfaces. Its pasty consistency supports application on vertical areas, and the manufacturer lists substrates including metal, ceramics, glass, wood and certain plastics.

Think of it as a candidate for a defined repair, rather than a general substitute for welding, fasteners or replacement parts. The useful question is whether the proposed bond can perform the required job throughout its service conditions.

Repair requirement What to assess Purchasing implication
Bonding two small parts Materials, contact area, alignment and direction of loading Confirm the adhesive and joint design together.
Filling local unevenness Gap size, access and required final dimensions Check the filling capability before selecting the pack.
A larger rebuild Volume, shaping time and finishing operations Compare a repair putty or another repair system.
A critical component Approved repair method and acceptance requirements Obtain engineering approval before treating an adhesive as a solution.

Understand the difference between working time and cure time

“Minute Adhesive” does not mean immediate return to full service. WEICON’s July 2026 technical data sheet gives the following reference figures. Pot life is specified at 20°C for a 10 g batch.

Parameter Published reference
Mixing ratio by volume 1:1
Maximum gap bridging 4 mm
Pot life 4–5 minutes
Handling strength 20 minutes; 35% strength
Working strength 40 minutes; 80% strength
Final strength 24 hours

Higher temperatures and larger mixed quantities shorten the available working time. Plan around the actual conditions and the supplied product’s instructions. A part that can be handled is not automatically ready for its full operating load.

Prepare everything before dispensing

Start with a dry run. Check how the parts fit, where adhesive needs to go and how the assembly will be held without drifting out of position. Decide how the finished joint will be inspected. This avoids spending the short working window looking for clamps, adjusting access or discovering that a component cannot be aligned.

WEICON specifies clean, dry bonding surfaces and identifies Surface Cleaner for preparation. Follow the adhesive’s instructions for the selected materials. Any abrasion, cleaning and drying steps should be completed before mixing; avoid contaminating the prepared contact area during handling.

Our Cleaner Spray S listing is relevant to general workshop degreasing, but cleaner selection still matters. WEICON warns that Cleaner Spray S can attack some thermoplastics and paint layers. Use the cleaner specified for your bonding procedure and verify compatibility with adjacent materials.

Surface preparation is part of the repair plan. Confirm cleaner compatibility and follow the adhesive’s specified preparation method.

Dispensing and assembly

The double syringe has an integrated plunger, so this format does not require a separate dispensing gun. WEICON describes use with a suitable mixing nozzle, or dispensing and thoroughly mixing the components manually with a spatula until the colour is uniform. Confirm which accessories are supplied with the pack you order.

Arrange your job so mixing leads directly into application and positioning. Mark the start time and keep a clear record of when the assembly can next be handled. If several people share a workbench, label the repair so someone else does not move it prematurely.

For repeated jobs, standardise the preparation, part position and acceptance check. A successful one-off repair is useful evidence, but a repeatable process needs those details written down. Keep a photograph of the accepted result with the maintenance record.

Fast-Metal or a repair putty?

President Trading also lists WEICON Epoxy Resin Putty, 400 g, a kneadable two-component material. Compare the physical form and quantity against the task: a small syringe may be convenient for local bonding, while a putty deserves assessment when the job involves shaping a larger repair.

These are separate products, so do not transfer the Fast-Metal cure times or performance figures to the putty. Estimate the repair volume and ask for the relevant data sheet before deciding. The lowest pack price is not necessarily the lowest job cost if the chosen format makes preparation or application more difficult.

Check service conditions before approving the repair

Record operating temperature, contact with oils or cleaning chemicals, vibration and the way the load acts on the joint. Include whether the component is pressure-containing or safety-critical. Those details determine what evidence is needed before the equipment can be released.

For a trial on a suitable non-critical application, define the acceptance criteria first: correct alignment, required dimensions, an appropriate functional check and a scheduled follow-up inspection. Do not treat a surface that feels hard as proof that every requirement has been met.

Choose the product around the job

Send President Trading photographs, material details, approximate gap or damage dimensions, operating conditions and your available downtime. We can help you identify which listed product warrants assessment and confirm the pack and current lead time.
