Milwaukee Hammer Combo Sets: Choosing the Right Drill and Rotary Hammer for Concrete Work

Professional installation work often involves more than one type of drilling. A technician may need to drill metal, drive screws and then create anchor holes in concrete. That is why a combination of a percussion drill and SDS-Plus rotary hammer is often more practical than trying to make one tool handle every task.

Percussion drill versus SDS rotary hammer

A percussion drill is well suited to general drilling, screwdriving and lighter masonry work. An SDS rotary hammer uses a dedicated hammering mechanism designed for efficient concrete drilling. On site, having both tools ready means the technician can keep one fitted with a conventional drill or driver bit and the other fitted with an SDS concrete bit.

M12 Hammer Combo for lighter installation work

The compact M12 combinations are useful for electricians, facilities technicians, air-conditioning installers and contractors who frequently work overhead or in confined areas. President Trading's M12 Hero Combo pairs a compact rotary hammer with an M12 percussion drill and is intended for lighter installation work, including concrete holes up to approximately 13 mm depending on the configuration.

M12 Hero Enhanced for more capability in a compact platform

The M12 Hero Enhanced uses the M12 FHAC16 SDS-Plus hammer together with High Output batteries, extending concrete drilling capability to approximately 16 mm while retaining the portability of the M12 system.

M18 26 mm Hammer Combo for heavier-duty work

For larger anchors and more demanding concrete drilling, the M18 26 mm Hammer Combo combines:

  • M18 FHX 26 mm SDS-Plus Rotary Hammer
  • M18 FPD3 Percussion Drill
  • 2 x M18 B5 5.0Ah batteries
  • M12-18FC fast charger

The M18 FHX is designed for concrete drilling up to 26 mm, while the M18 FPD3 handles general drilling, screwdriving and percussion drilling applications.

Why carry two tools?

Consider a contractor installing mechanical supports. One tool can remain fitted for drilling the metal bracket or driving fasteners, while the SDS hammer remains set up for concrete anchors. Instead of repeatedly changing bits and modes, the technician simply switches tools. On repetitive installation work, that can save meaningful time across the day.

Choosing M12 or M18

Choose M12 when compact size and lower weight matter most, particularly for smaller anchors and frequent overhead work. Choose M18 when larger holes, heavier concrete work and higher duty cycles are more common. The largest tool is not automatically the best tool; the right choice depends on the hole size and the work being done most often.
